12-YEAR-OLD Rebecca built a heated blanket for people living on the streets.
After seeing people sleeping outside in freezing weather... Rebecca Young came up with a simple idea:
A solar-powered blanket that could provide warmth at night. The blanket folds into a backpack, charges during the day, and stores energy in a battery.
Her idea became a working prototype with help from Thales.
Since then, 150 blankets have been donated to homeless charities in Glasgow.
Rebecca was also named one of TIME's first Girls of the Year in 2025.
A simple idea from a 12-year-old turned into something that is actually helping people.
