Kenton Varda, a longtime software engineer and LAN party enthusiast, has been hosting gaming sessions since his 14th birthday in 1996.
Back then, 4 computers and Doom 2 were enough for an all-nighter.
Today, he and his wife Jade Wang have a dedicated gaming house in Austin with: • 22 gaming machines • Monitors, cables and peripherals • Around $75,000 spent on the gaming setup The entire house cost a 7-digit amount.
Varda says he has hosted or attended 100+ LAN parties, usually with 8–16 people. Some people build a guest room.
